After training for 16 weeks, 22 farmers have now mastered various methods in increasing and maximizing their yield of high breed corn under the mentorship of the Local Farmer Technician-Farmer Field School.
The farmers, hailing from different barangays, received their certificates of completion in a field day and graduation ceremony held on Mar. 20 at Brgy. Bugayong, Binalonan.
Present during the graduation were municipal and regional agriculture officials and employees, representatives from Syngenta, Ace Feeds and Meridian Nature Tek, and other guests.
Farmers underwent a series of hands-on trainings starting November 2018, which included participatory technology demonstrations conducted by the local farmer technicians from the Department of Agriculture of Binalonan.
Furthermore, farmer participants were provided certified high-breed yellow corn seeds and bags of fertilizers.
Cleofe J. Martinez served as the supervising agricultural technologist while the local farmer technicians were Elmo C. Baniguen and Tita A. Bagacina.
Last year, Binalonan was awarded as National Hall of Famer on corn production, and received a cash prize worth P 1 million.
