Experts and enthusiasts from different regions unleashed their prowess in their quest to become the top woodpusher in the 1st Rapid Chess Competition.
The event, held Apr. 14 at The Tent, Rock Garden, Binalonan, was participated in by delegates from the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.
Vice Mayor Melecio F. Patague and Coun. Josephine Canurnay graced the opening and led the ceremonial move to start off the competition against some of the youngest participants.
Patague welcomed the delegates with pride mentioning among others that under the administration of Mayor Ramon V. Guico III, the town supports this kind of sports that caters not only to the physical but to the intellectual development of athletes.
Meanwhile, he and Caburnay made the ceremonial move to start off the competition pitted against one of the youngest participants in the event.
The youngest players were two 5 year-old girls from Urdaneta City and Rosales, Pangasinan, Allesandra de Guzman and Princess Sombrito respectively. On the other hand , the oldest was top Senior Fidel Labuanan from Laoac, Pangasinan.
Declared champion in the Winners Open Division was Joel Pimentel Jr, followed by Sherwin Tiu, Lennon Hart Salgados, Louie Pable, Romulo Curioso Jr., Vince Angelo Medina, Wait Allen Talan, Emmanuel Emperado. Romy Fagon and Christian Dave Cabida.
Top College Player was Prince Mark Aquino; Top Unrated, Hector Tadina; Top Binalonan Player was Noel Ancheta while the Top Female Player was Imelda Flores.
The winners under the Kiddies category (14 y/o and below) were: Mhage Gerriah Lou Sebastian, Justin Mordido, Christian Ericson Costuna, King Archie Bactol (Top School)Cedric Daniel Macato (Top 12-Under).
The other winners from 5th to the 10th placers were Francis Noel Versoza, Luis Andrew Berdon, Chelo Cheska Camus, David Ray sarmiento and Maricar Sabado.
Top Lady Kid was Erich Ross Micua while Top 10 Under and Top School was Chessica Fiona Sadey and Top Binalonan Kid was Justin Aaron Fiesta.
