News: RHU Binalonan holds “Usapang Batang Ina, Usapang Batang Ama” session

Rural Health Unit of Binalonan on December 13 held Family Planning Session dubbed, Usapang Series: Usapang Batang Ina, Usapang Batang Ama at the Events Tent Center.

Spearheaded by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Framila C. Dela Cruz, the session focused on Teenage Pregnancy and Responsible Parenthood.

Dr. Amina Gerola Simisim, head, OB Department of Urdaneta District Hospital, discussed Teenage Pregnancy.

Anthony Corpuz, team leader, Department of Health, Human Resource for Health, talked about Responsible Parenthood.

The twenty-four pairs, one pair from each barangay, were taught about the various risks of teenage pregnancy, responsibilities of parents, safe motherhood after giving birth, and family planning.

Vice Mayor Melicio F. Patague II commended the RHU staff for conducting the sessions and advised the participants to be more cautious of their roles and responsibilities as young parents.

Councilor Josephine Caburnay, chairman, Committee on Health, Sanitation and Nutrition, expressed her support to the activity.

According to the Commission on Population (POPCOM), about 500 teenage girls give birth in the Philippines every day as more adolescents engage in premarital sex, raising concerns about early and unplanned pregnancies. Some 196,000 Filipinos between the ages of 15 and 19 years old get pregnant each year.
