Mayor Guico Signs University Town Ordinance

Dec 28, 2017 | Press Release

June 2011 – Mayor Guico signed on June 14 Municipal Ordinance No. 2011-05 declaring the Municipality of Binalonan a University Town.

The signing held at SB Session Hall was also attended by Vice-Mayor Renato E. Legaspi.

This is the first in the history of the country that an ordinance declared a municipality as a university town.

It can be recalled that sometime in September 2011, LGUs, barangay and DepEd officials went on a Lakbay-Aral to Dumaguete City to benchmark Binalonan as a University Town. Although Dumaguete is the first university town in the country, it was not declared as such by a municipal or city ordinance.

Witnessing the formal signing of the ordinance are the SB members who enacted the ordinance on its regular session on May 23, 2011. Also present were the municipal department heads and school administrators of Binalonan District I and II, Juan G. Macaraeg National High School and the 189 schools.
